End-of-Summer Home Projects

A home with blue siding and fall trees in the background

Now that Labor Day has come and gone, fall feels like it’s just around the corner! Now is the perfect time to complete those end-of-summer home projects you’ve been wanting to get done before the weather turns colder. What are some projects you should be looking to complete before the end of the season?

Here’s our list of projects to complete before the fall:

-Clean your gutters

-Check your siding: Make sure your siding is free of holes and dents. If you find any spots in need of repair, you’ll want to get that taken care of as soon as possible. You may also want to power wash your siding. (See why we love Alside's ASCEND siding.)

-Check your deck: The same goes for your deck! If you have any loose boards or areas in need of repair, now’s the time to take care of that. Any deck additions you’ve been considering should also get completed now. Once that’s completed, give your deck a good cleaning.

-Check your windows: Replace any drafty windows or broken screens, and replace any bad caulking around your windows. Now is a great time to give your windows a good cleaning, too. (Read about Alside's Mezzo windows.)

-Build a fire pit: Want a new fire pit installed for fall bonfires? Now’s the time to get that or any other landscaping installed, including any wooden benches or seating around your fire pit.

-Store your firewood: Speaking of bonfires (or perhaps a wood-burning fireplace), you’ll need a place to store all of your firewood so it stays dry. Check your storage space to make sure it’s still in good shape, and if you don’t have one, consider building a small shelter.

-Check your doors: Just like your windows, check both your regular and screen or storm doors. Replace and repaint as needed.

-Clean out your garage: Make room for any summer gardening items or lawn furniture that will be coming inside soon! Sweep out and clean your garage floor and make sure you have the necessary furniture coverings or space in your garage for your summer items.

-Check your shed: Make sure your shed is in good condition. Power wash the outside, sweep out and clean the inside to make room for any summer gardening items you may need to store inside! If you don’t have a shed and think you may need one, now is the best time to get it installed. Here are our tips for a new shed.

-Fence repairs: Check your fence and make sure that none of the boards or posts need to be repaired. Give your fence a good cleaning and re-stain it if needed.

-Check your chimney and fireplace: You’ll want to make sure your chimney is in good shape for the winter, as well as your fireplace. The same goes for your roof.
