With the change of seasons brings a desire to refresh the interior of your home, too. If changing your seasonal decorations isn’t going to cut it and you want a little bigger of a change in your home, here are some design elements that are trending this fall:
-Want to add a touch of metal? Try chrome in your overhead lighting, lamps, accent pieces, or on hardware like switch plates. It’s always been known for its sleek, modern look, and it’s still trending for a reason! Simply switching a hall mirror or a light fixture with chrome in it can give you a polished, updated look without much effort. Bonus: It pretty much goes with everything, so even if you decide to paint or change colors in the room, chrome will still look good.
-Throwbacks: Tagging right along with chrome’s retro feel are 1950s-1970s designs, like bold geometric patterns, earth tones, and curved furniture. How can you easily incorporate this style into your home? Thrifting! Resale shops and antique stores will yield the best results for authentic ways to incorporate the retro trend. Adding subtle accent pieces like a ‘50s bar cart, a funky ‘60s lamp, or rug in those ‘70s earthy tones will give your room that retro pop without feeling too dated.
-Play with pattern: Checks and stripes are taking center stage, and those are easy to incorporate in a wide variety of different colors, whether you’re looking for something subtle or a vivid color choice that echoes the colors of the leaves outside. The sky really is the limit with how you want to add this trend to your home–rugs, furniture, lamps, accent pieces like candles or pillows, mugs, napkins–you’re only limited by your imagination.
-Not into bright colors? Try softer earth tones. Also trending this season are more muted colors like sage green, light blue, and rust red. These work great together, or you could choose one color as a monochromatic look, balance it with brighter colors, or simply add a pop of these muted colors against your other neutrals. These colors are easy to add into your room with blankets, pillows, rugs, lamps, and more.
-Looking for something more whimsical? Scalloped edges and organic shapes are set to take off this fall. These softer lines balance out the sharper edges of furniture. Vases, candlesticks, lamps, and rugs are all easy, low-maintenance ways to add this trend into your home.
-Chunky designs: Just like you reach for that cable-knit sweater during the colder months, design is trending toward thicker, heavier materials–think thick, woven rugs and wool blankets. You can also incorporate chunky designs in furniture and things like place settings (plates, silverware, even woven placemats and heavy cloth napkins).
-Colored glass: Vases, bowls, drinking glasses, and lamps are all fun ways to add a pop of color into your home. You can use a subtler color, such as a deep amber, or something more joyful, like a bright red, to play with tone and texture.
-Play with texture: Accents and furniture pieces with structure and texture add depth to your home. Don’t stick to clean lines only–adding a thick, wool blanket adds warmth and depth if it’s thrown over one side of a sofa. Using raw wood adds layering and creates interest.
