The kids are back in school, the pool is closed…now what? Everything is good until fall officially begins, right? Well, not exactly! There are some September-specific home projects you may want to consider tackling during this transitional month:
-Considering redoing your kitchen? Buy your appliances now. Bob Vila’s website shares a secret: September is the best month to buy appliances, because manufacturers bring out their new models, so you can grab last year’s appliances at a steep discount. (Plus, if you book a kitchen or dining room remodel with us from now through October 31, 2024, we’ll give you 15% off your total so you can save even more money.)
-Check and replace your insulation: If you’re having any issues with your insulation or weather-stripping, now is the time to check it and get it replaced if needed. You don’t want to wait until the first cold snap to find out you have insulation problems! Consider insulating your rim joists and any small holes where air can leak out in your attic as well.
-Replace your furnace filter and get your furnace inspected: Make sure everything is working well before temperatures drop to freezing.
-Exterior wood rot repairs: Found some rotting wood and need to get it fixed? Now is the perfect time to get that project off your to-do list.
-Think about outerwear storage: Do you have enough racks for your family’s coats, hats, and scarves? How about boot storage? Gloves and mittens? Get ahead of the cold snap and take this time to reorganize and add necessary storage now, so you won’t be digging for what you need later. Hunter Handyman Services can help you hang more racks for winter outerwear, create benches with added storage for blankets and extra winter items, and help you find a way to neatly store all those bulky winter boots.
-Closet storage: The same goes for your fall and winter clothing items! Bulky sweaters take up more space than your summer t-shirts, so late summer and early fall are the perfect time to see whether you have enough closet space for your items. Do you want to add closet shelves for sweaters and hats? Create a whole new organizational system, whether it’s custom or store-bought?
-Fix doors that don’t latch: Do you have any doors that don’t close properly? Hunter Handyman Services can help you repair doors that don’t latch, loose door hinges, or damage to storm door jambs. We can also help with those sticky sliding doors and fix doors with adjustable thresholds or gaps.
-Close off potential entries for pests: Avoid unwanted pests in your home this fall and winter and close their entries. Not sure how? We can help with that!
Hunter Handyman Services is here to make the transition from summer to fall as simple and easy as possible for you. If you need assistance with these or any other projects, give us a call at (815) 780-7884 for a free estimate or more information.
