Spring Cleanup: Outdoors Edition

Spring weather has been teasing us lately—coming and going on a whim. But we know— or at least, we hope—that sunshine and spring temps will stay for good soon. We’ve talked in recent weeks about getting your deck and patio ready, but what about the rest of your exterior? It’s time to get out into the yard and wash away those winter blues for good! What can you do to make sure your home and yard look great all season long?

-Give your yard some TLC: If you haven’t already, remove any debris that’s been blown into your yard from the wind, like tree branches, leaves, and garbage. Check on the length of your lawn—in most places, it’s time to cut the grass for the first time this spring. If you’re a gardener, check on your landscaping and replace the mulch.

-Clean off your deck or patio: If you didn’t read our blog post about how to get your deck ready for spring, check it out here. Before you add any furniture, you’ll definitely want to sweep it off or give it a good power washing so it’s clean and ready to start the season.

-Get your yard decorations and furniture out: If you’ve covered your furniture with tarps and stored it outside, now’s a good time to uncover it and move it out where you’d like it to go. If you put your patio furniture in a shed or another storage location, get it placed on the deck or patio, put the cushions on, and get ready to soak up the sunshine. You can also grab those planters and yard decorations you’ve stored away as well. Check out this season's exterior design trends here.

-Exterior cleaning: While you’re power washing your deck, take a look at your home. Does it need a good power wash, too? If so, Hunter Handyman Services is happy to help! It’s also a good time to wash your windows and screens after the dusty rains. You’ll want to check and clean your gutters as well to prevent water from damaging your home.

-Check for minor (or major) repairs: Take a walk around the outside of your home. Look for any damaged siding, roofing issues, foundational cracks, and drafty windows or doors. Additionally, if you have a fence, now is a great time to check your fence for repairs as well—make sure you don’t have any broken fence posts, gates, or panels so your dog can’t sneak out on you!
